When Value Was You

When value was you,
You knew that failure was untrue.
There was a hope stronger than knots
On a rope of fear.
It was easy to cope with the
Cruel hands that groped
Threatening to take hold of you.

When value was you,
You recognized that only One
Truly knew the depths of you heart,
The abyss of your soul
And the path set apart.

When value was you,
Gossips and whispers
Spoken to destroy you were only
Subject of conversation for those
Who saw nothing good for their own lives.
When value was you,
You realized that others could not
Take it away from you,
Only make you believe you had lost it all.

When value was you,
You believed loneliness
Was an invention to make you careless,
Hopeless, Lifeless.

But you should know,
Value is you.
Like diamond and gold
Hidden in the most profound chasms
Of the earth,
For men to lose their own
Worth at the expense of material ones.

But you should know,
Value is you.
Alive and unbroken by the trials
Of life.
Value is you.
Like diamond and gold–
Buried in secluded territories,
They still retain their worth.

Are you not worth more than material objects?
You should know:
Value is you.
