Finding Beauty

I found beauty
In my mother’s strength
When her legs tired and her hands froze in the midnight cold
She carried me,
Young and reckless,
Exhausted from a day of playing and crying

I found beauty in my sister’s drive
When the lies came and the arrows pierced
The walls of her heart
She bounced right back with targets of her own

I found beauty
In a friend’s kindness
In my pain, she cries my tears
In my joy she shares her own

I find beauty
In a woman’s resilience
When the storms threaten to break her
And the people she loves disappear
She still has room to give
To forgive
To believe that beauty fades
But her value always remains
